Club calves built for the ring, raised by a family that shows them

Show cattle, commercial pairs, and freezer beef out of eastern Idaho — bred with embryo transfer genetics and fed like they belong on the tanbark.

The Shurtz family

A lifelong passion that turned into a family operation

Ranching has been in Ryan Shurtz's blood as long as he can remember. In 2010, he and his wife Kristin turned that passion into something of their own and started RK Livestock as a commercial cattle outfit.

It did not stay just theirs for long. As their kids grew up, they caught the same love for livestock, and 4-H projects turned into weekends spent at jackpot shows across the region. The more the family showed, the clearer it became that they needed to raise their own high-quality show cattle.

RK Livestock is still rooted in the commercial herd, but today the program is just as focused on producing top-tier show stock. Ryan and Kristin have invested in embryo transfer work with their best donor cows so every calf crop takes another step forward.

Through hard work, better genetics, and a passion the whole family shares, RK Livestock keeps growing as a name people trust for both commercial and show livestock.
