The Shurtz family

A lifelong passion that turned into a family operation

Ranching has been in Ryan Shurtz's blood as long as he can remember. In 2010, he and his wife Kristin turned that passion into something of their own and started RK Livestock as a commercial cattle outfit.

But when it comes to showing cattle, the credit belongs to Kadence. That passion did not begin with Ryan or Kristin — it began with her. Without Kadence's love for the show ring, this chapter of RK Livestock would never have happened. What started as her passion became a direction the whole family embraced, turning 4-H projects into weekends at jackpot shows and a commitment to raising high-quality show cattle of their own.

Kadence's enthusiasm opened the door for Ryker, too. He now shows cattle alongside her, carrying that same family passion into the ring. Ryan and Kristin are proud to support a journey their kids inspired — one built on time together, hard work, and a shared love for good cattle.

RK Livestock is still rooted in the commercial herd, but today the program is just as focused on producing top-tier show stock. Ryan and Kristin have invested in embryo transfer work with their best donor cows so every calf crop takes another step forward. Better genetics help build the herd, but Kadence's spark — and the passion she and Ryker now share — is what makes this a true family operation.

He offers extra extension ahead of his shoulder and then comes level down his top and out of his hip, while still offering a round and soft look to his rib cage. We've already had babies out of him — watch for more as we have more calves on the way.

A triple clean club calf sire that has so many of the extras usually produced from genetic defects — yet he has none of them! We feel he can be used on carrier females but also on clean maternal pedigrees without sacrificing any of the results. Backed by the 'G8' donor at Linton Livestock, who in her first year of embryo progeny raised 2 promotional sires, a heifer topping their fall sale at $20,000 for half interest, and a $15,000 steer — with only 6 head born in total!
